Auto Industry Employment Up In Canada

Sep 16,2016

According to Statistics Canada data from the first half of 2016, employment in selected segments of the auto industry has increased 1.1 percent compared to 2015 data. This represents a recorded work force of around 800,000 employees in the industry as of June 2016.
From a “core sector” perspective, there has been growth across the board within the motor vehicle manufacturing observing the highest increase at 4.6 percent.
Motor vehicle parts and accessory manufacturing backing at 3.3 percent with a respectable 2.0 percent and 1.6 percent increase within the number of jobs in automotive repair and maintenance and automobile dealers segments.
Canada was up 6.0 percent in June 2016. Strong performance in the new vehicle market has begun to wind down with two successive year-over-year decreases in both July and August new vehicle sales.
It is too soon to say whether or not this shift in sales dynamics will have an impact on employment in the overall automotive industry.
