Key responsibilities will include:
 
Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server database systems in a range of environments covering the complete product life cycle, in a range of complex and critical environments.
Perform SQL Server Database Administration support functions (including but not limited to):
database backup & recovery.
database availability.
capacity & resource management.
performance & tuning.
change, incident and problem management.
version upgrades & software patching.
Contribute to the Database and Middleware Services technical discussions, and the maturity of the team’s standards and processes.
Resolution of assigned Incidents/Requests on-site or remotely
Pro-actively identify, analyse and resolve problems to optimise systems and minimise risk, document work-arounds and implement changes as and when required.
Proactively perform required system monitoring, alert/event response, maintenance and patching activities.
Maintain, upgrade and tailor the SQL Server Management Toolsets.
Timely and accurate documentation of work performed, to the standard required and using the systems, processes and/or methods specified.  This includes system documentation, Incident/Request/Problem ticket updates, Asset and Configuration records and time reporting.
Proactively identify technology improvements with comprehensive analysis, detailed solution design and follow through to completion of implementation.
Proactive identify inefficient processes and procedures and propose and implement improvements. Must also support and participate in service improvement initiatives within the team.
Customer centric prompt and effective action when dealing with client requests, questions and concerns.
When required, perform activities after hours and participate in the on-call roster.
Participate in Project activities, as required.
 
Knowledge, skills and experience relevant to this role:
 
5 + years’ experience in SQL Server database technologies, including but not limited to the key features of SQL Server versions 2000, 2005, 2008 R2 2012 and 2014.  An operational understanding of SSIS, SSAS, SSRS is also required.
Demonstrated knowledge of High Availability and business continuity solutions, including but not limited to SQL Server Clustering, Database Availability Groups, LogShipping, Replication and Database Mirroring.
Demonstrated understanding and ability to solution technical infrastructure (both physical and technical).
Sound knowledge of Windows Operating systems, including but not limited to Windows Server 2003/08/12/12 R2.
Sound knowledge of Virtualisation, Cloud and Database Storage ideologies.
High level of communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to understand technical issues and clearly articulate solutions to clients.
Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and effectively work with internal and external customers at all levels.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated capability to work proactively, meet deadlines and manage priorities.
