About The Role


We are looking for a risk engineer to work in our General Property insurance business segment in Asia and provide technical advice to the property underwriters. You will advise our property underwriters on risk quality, loss estimates, natural hazard exposures, capacity allocation and loss prevention measures for mid to large property accounts.

 

About The Team


Your role as risk engineer will include desktop risk assessments and carrying out on-site risk inspections and operations reviews to assess our clients' risk exposure and mitigation approaches. You will formulate risk improvement recommendations to assist clients in their effort to improve the risk quality of their assets.

You will support local Swiss Re Corporate Solution's clients by assuming role as an account engineer for selected accounts on which Swiss Re provides lead capacity.

Swiss Re's clientele are represented by diverse range of industrial and commercial clients (local and international). As part of the Asia Pacific team, you will be conducting risk assessments over a diverse range of industries e.g. FMCG, Metals or Chemical industry.

As a member of our global Risk Engineering Services (RES) department, you will be our expert in selected core industries or risk topics. This will allow you to contribute to various projects and papers involving best practices, guidelines, Underwriter guidelines and technology and industry updates. Finally, you will be responsible for analyzing losses with focus on the utilities business and provide support in implementing lessons learned for clients, Underwriters and Risk Engineering Services.

 

About You


5 - 10 years practical experience as an insurance risk engineering professional. Prior field working experience in industrial sectors or engineering projects is highly desired complement. Candidates with higher level of risk engineering experience will be considered for senior risk engineer position.
Strong engineering experience/knowledge in the metals industry e.g. steel mills or chemical industry will be a plus factor.
Tertiary degree in chemical, mechanical, civil or electrical engineering
Thorough knowledge and experience in insurance risk engineering (including fire protection, process safety, operational hazards of complex industrial processes)
Good knowledge of international (NFPA, FM etc) and possibly local loss prevention/fire protection or other applicable industry standards
Fluency in spoken and written English and Malay
Proficiency in other Asian languages e.g. Thai, Tagalog, Indian or Mandarin is desirable.
