As the IT Security Specialist, under the supervision of the Manager, Technology Services, you take a strategic role in the delivery of infrastructure support services, preparation of strategic infrastructure proposals, project management, and in providing advanced technical infrastructure guidance to both IDRC and non-IDRC staff. In order to successfully deliver on these tasks, you will be required at times to lead other team members. 

You will also provide balanced IT security solutions which ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the organisation’s information. This is accomplished through the design of new security solutions while also identifying areas of risk to the organisation and developing & executing mitigation strategies. Additionally, you will contribute to the ongoing support of systems, including responding to user requests sent to the Service Desk and providing feedback when required to the systems product strategists. Finally you must possess the ability to effectively respond to incidents that may impact the ability to deliver IT services. 

Candidate Profile Education 

• University degree in computer/information science or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
• ITIL v3.0 certification is required 

One or more of the following certifications: 

• GIAC Security Essentials Certification 
• GIAC Security Leadership Certification 
• ISACA Certified Information Security Manager 
• Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer: Security 
• (ISC)2 System Security Certified Practitioner 
• (ISC)2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional 
• (ISC)2 Information Systems Security Architecture Professional. 

Experience This position requires five (5) years of experience in an IT security role including: 

• Experience in managing medium to large sized IT projects Experience in enterprise security architecture design and security document creation; 
• Experience in developing and testing Business Continuity Plans and Disaster Recovery Plans; 
• Experience with managing: firewalls, Web filtering applications, Intrusion detection and Intrusion prevention systems and vulnerability scanning or similar systems; and 
• Experience with server administration (ex. Windows server 2012). 

Language • Bilingual position (English/French) at intermediate level. 

Knowledge • Knowledge of technology trends and directions, platforms and architectures including hardware and software products, operating systems and data management tools, and trends and developments in Information Technology and Information Management fields (wide number of technology platforms); 
• Broad hands-on knowledge of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, data encryption, and other industry-standard techniques and practices; 
• Knowledge of applicable practices and laws relating to data privacy and protection; and 
• Strong understanding of IP, TCP/IP, and other network administration protocols. 

Competencies • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities. 

• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. 
• Ability to develop project plans, define and establish milestones and other schedules, and monitor progress against plans. 
• Ability to transmit knowledge and to prepare clear and concise technical documentation. 
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 
• Solid judgment, reliability, initiative and effective interpersonal relationships.
