About the business and the role

Are you a passionate Computer Network and Systems Engineer? Have you got a wealth of experience in enterprise level network design and implementation? Corporate Business Direct (CBD) being a Telstra Business Partner with multiple ICT projects requires an experienced Computer Network and System Engineer to join our team in Perth.


Job tasks and responsibilities

Plan, develop, deploy, test and optimize network and system services, taking responsibility for the configuration, management and overall operational readiness of network systems, especially environments with multiple operating systems and configurations, and provide troubleshooting and fault-finding services for network problems.
Install and maintain hardware and software, documents diagnosis and resolution of faults, manage user passwords, security and inventory documentation, ensures the efficient performance of servers, printers and personal computers, and attend to other operational tasks. May also be required to perform tasks such as help desk support and user training from time to time.
Researches and analyses network architecture, and recommends policies and strategies for designing, planning and coordinating an organization's network such as the total system environment and architecture. May also perform operational tasks such as monitoring system performance, software and hardware upgrades, backups, support and network maintenance.
Conduct stakeholder meetings and field audits of green field sites or existing installations to gather user requirements and produce concept and maintenance documents. Draft proposals and recommendations for IT and telecommunications systems to meet the client business and technical requirements.
Assist the project team with procurement activities for all critical equipment and subsystems necessary for the project. Develop "as-built" documentation of all the IT & Telecommunication systems delivered.
Seeking and addressing new technology and products to resolve technical issues or initiate improvements and efficiencies. Understanding client business, environment, requirement and problems and making recommendations for implement network solutions.
Perform onsite / offsite / remote support to a range of IT issues (Phone system, networking system, email, PC, phones, printers, etc…). Installation and configuration of software/hardware, setup of network system, migration of data and ongoing support.


Skills and experience

Master's degree, preferably in technical discipline or field (Computer Science, Computer, Network Security, Cyber Security).
Minimum of 10 years' professional experience in desired discipline.
Experience in Network design and implementation, Switching and Routing protocols, Wireless Technologies, Network Management and Monitoring tools.
Experience with Ancillary Services (Rack and Cabling).
Experience with Mitel PABX. (Mitel 5000 and 3300).
Highly developed communication skills both verbal and written.
You will be involved in the early identification, design and implementation of IT infrastructure into a new purpose based facility to accommodate nominated day of operation functions. Assets includes data networks (WAN), radio, transmission and communications systems, CCTV, WiFi, SCADA and IT desktop equipment.
The role will suit a self-starter who can run with design work independently as well as collaborate within a team environment and engage with a range of stakeholders to negotiate project scope, standards and specifications.
Ability to design, implement and support WAN, MAN and LAN communication networks.
Understanding of ITIL & Prince2 frameworks is desirable.
Ability to mentor team member and share knowledge.
Identify and implement automated solutions to current manual tasks, Identify and perform proactive platform systems management.
A strong dynamic character who is capable of dealing effectively with colleagues and business partners and clients, working in a constantly evolving environment across multiple time-zone and cultures.
Customer-focused with a "service-first" mentality.
Ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures in the provision of telecommunications systems.
Working knowledge of Australian IT & Telecommunication regulations, practices and standards. Knowledge of Telstra's Enterprise Products and Services is highly desirable.
Highly organized when it comes to monitoring telecommunication systems to assess need for updates, upgrades, enhancements, preventive maintenance and new systems assessing performance levels of system hardware and software to project future needs, and developing short- and long-terms plans for updating equipment, adding capabilities, enhancing existing systems and providing improved telecommunications.
