Role Summary

The Business Development Manager is responsible for developing new business for the resort by exploring and generating new group sales opportunities by targeting niche markets and new business segments. Reporting to the Director of Sales & Marketing, this role is focused on sourcing new business opportunities and assisting team members with closing sales contracts. They will be involved with the preparation, execution and follow up of resort tours and the sales team members’ clients.

Accountabilities

Conducts business development activities for all markets, using available resources including but not limited to: phone calls, e-mail campaigns, newsletters, social media
Complete cold calls to attract potential new clients and perform a sales deposition
Uses negotiating skills and creative selling abilities to close on business and negotiate contracts
Builds and strengthens relationships with existing and new customers to enable future bookings; activities include sales calls, entertainment and trade shows on behalf of self and other sales team members
Develops relationships within community to strengthen and expand customer base for group/catering sales opportunities
Manages and develops relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
Serves our customers and works to gain an in-depth understanding of their business and service expectations, to grow share of the account and to offer better business solutions both prior to and during the event
Understands the overall market, including our competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand etc.
Identifies new group/catering business opportunities and target customers, to achieve personal and hotel revenue goals
Takes initiative to help clients manage the business process, setting and meeting client expectations and delivering results according to budget
Outlines the customer's requirements accurately and reserves appropriate space during the sales phase to lay the foundation for a successful event
Supports the operational aspects of business booked, including generating proposals and writing group sales agreements
Responds to incoming group/catering opportunities for the hotel that are outside parameters of the regional sales office
Partners with event management and operations to provide a customer experience that exceeds the expectations
Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels
Attends pre- and post-convention meetings when required, to understand group needs, obtain feedback on quality of product, service levels and overall satisfaction
Compliance with all safety regulations and ensures a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
Adheres to all environmental policies and programs as required
Other duties as assigned
Requirements

2 years of experience in sales and marketing, hospitality leadership role or related professional area
Degree or Diploma in business administration, marketing, hospitality management, or related area an asset
Proven sales ability through persuasiveness and a sales disposition
Ability to function calmly in a fast-paced environment handling multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail
Superior presentation skills, telephone skills and written communication skills
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs
Resort experience an asset
Working Conditions

Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
Must be available to travel on overnight and extended business trips
Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, evenings, weekends and holidays
Stand, sit, walk, crouch, bend for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 40 pounds without assistance.
