MULTI-TASKING IS INEVITABLE IN YOUR WORK LIFE

MULTI-TASKING IS INEVITABLE IN YOUR WORK LIFE

Jun 20,2016

You can’t get rid of multitasking. It’s a natural part of work and life. You only need to know how to organize it. If you know how to walk and eat at the same time, you will surely be able to cope with multitasking.

So, how do we better handle multiple tasks…?

Before getting started, make a plan. Approve timing and deadlines with your team and superiors.

utilize weekly briefs instead of daily outline. You have an online plan, with deadlines and priorities.

Reduce unneeded communication and increase the amount of work done. Stick to strict deadlines.

Work on one thing at a time, but alternate:

Alternating rapidly may mean figuring out ways to switch between tasks flawlessly.

Perhaps that means identifying or even building in times when a task does not need your direct attention.

Remind yourself to pay attention to a task once more when the time comes.

Simplify tasks you can't eliminate:

Especially if they're recursive tasks, try to perform them only in as much detail as they require. Or else, look for inefficiencies and improve what you can.

Choose compatible tasks:

For instance, you may find that reading and listening to speech both use the same type of focus. Instead, try pairing a physical task, such as ironing clothes, with a mental task, such as listening to the radio.

Work at a pace you can sustain:

Take breaks when you need them, especially to balance rushes. Multitasking may involve intense focus, and may not be an activity you can sustain indefinitely.
